Nikola Jokic recorded a historic 56-point triple-double and broke Steph Curry’s overtime scoring record as the Denver Nuggets beat the Minnesota Timberwolves on Christmas Day.
Denver Nuggets star delivers unprecedented performance in OT win over Timberwolves
Nikola Jokic delivered one of the greatest performances in NBA history on Christmas Day, recording a 56-point triple-double to lead the Denver Nuggets to a dramatic 142–138 overtime victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The three-time NBA MVP finished with:
• 56 points
• 16 rebounds
• 15 assists
Jokic became the first player ever to record at least 55 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists in a single game — a statistical milestone never before reached in league history.
Jokic Breaks Steph Curry’s Overtime Scoring Record
Jokic saved his best for overtime, scoring 18 of his 56 points in the extra period alone. That performance broke the NBA record for most points scored in overtime, previously held by Stephen Curry, who had 17 in a 2016 game.
The Serbian center dominated every possession down the stretch, controlling scoring, playmaking and rebounding as Denver closed out the win.
Timberwolves Force OT After Late Rally
Minnesota forced overtime after erasing a 15-point deficit in the final five minutes of regulation.
Anthony Edwards led the comeback, scoring 44 points, including a clutch game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation.
However, the Timberwolves’ hopes faded in overtime when Edwards was ejected after arguing foul calls with officials, leaving Minnesota without its leading scorer during Jokic’s historic run.
Nuggets Hold Firm in the West
The victory strengthened Denver’s position in the Western Conference playoff race:
• Nuggets: 3rd place in the West
• Timberwolves: 5th place
The Christmas Day win reinforced Denver’s status as a championship contender — powered once again by Jokic’s unmatched versatility and composure under pressure.
A Christmas Performance for the Ages
Jokic’s outing now stands among the most iconic Christmas Day games in NBA history, combining:
• Record-breaking scoring
• Elite playmaking
• Dominance in clutch moments
• A win against a direct conference rival
