Antonio Brown Extradited From Dubai to Face Attempted Murder Charge in Miami

Former NFL star Antonio Brown extradited from Dubai to Miami to face attempted-murder charges tied to a May shooting outside a celebrity boxing event.

Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has been extradited to the United States from Dubai to face a second-degree attempted murder charge, authorities confirmed Thursday.Brown, 37, was taken into custody by U.S. marshals in Essex County, New Jersey, and is expected to be transferred to Miami, where police have linked him to a non-fatal shooting in May 2025.

Details of the Case

According to the Miami Police Department, Brown became the subject of a June arrest warrant following a May 16 incident outside a celebrity boxing event in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood.Witnesses told police they heard gunfire outside the venue and saw Brown in a physical altercation with another man. Officers arriving on scene found two shell casings and an empty gun holster, though no firearm was recovered.Later, investigators obtained video evidence allegedly showing Brown taking a weapon from a security guard and firing two shots toward the other man. The victim, who survived, later identified Brown from surveillance footage.

International Arrest and Extradition

Authorities said they located Brown in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, after months of social-media activity suggesting he was living there. Working with the U.S. Marshals Service and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, detectives coordinated Brown’s apprehension and extradition.

“This is another example of the relentless work of our detectives and partners,” a Miami Police spokesman said. “We are committed to holding those who commit violent crimes accountable.”

Brown’s Legal and Personal History

Once one of the NFL’s most dynamic players, Brown’s career achievements — seven Pro Bowls and four first-team All-Pro selections — have been overshadowed by repeated legal and personal controversies since 2018:

• Multiple lawsuits, including one alleging he threw items off a balcony that nearly hit a child.

• Allegations of sexual misconduct and rape in a federal lawsuit.

• A 2020 battery arrest involving a moving-truck driver near his Florida home.• Public confrontations with police and the mother of his children.

• His infamous 2021 exit from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when he removed his gear mid-game and left the field.

• Later arrests in 2022 and 2023 for domestic-violence allegations (charges later dropped) and child-support nonpayment.

Brown has previously suggested that symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) might explain some of his behavior, though he has not been diagnosed.

What’s Next

As of Friday morning, Brown remains in federal custody pending transfer to Florida. He faces potential prosecution for attempted homicide and weapons-related offenses.

His representatives and family members have not yet commented.
