Habib Beye Faces Grim Verdict at Stade Rennais
The pressure is mounting on Habib Beye as Rennes prepare for their upcoming Ligue 1 trip to Toulouse FC. His position is said to be hanging by a thread after a 1-2 home defeat to OGC Nice — the team’s fifth consecutive match without a win.
According to outlets such as L’Équipe and Ouest France, Beye will remain on the bench for the trip to Toulouse in the 10th round of Ligue 1 — but only just.
The atmosphere at Roazhon Park has turned tense: the coach reportedly prohibited his players from speaking to the press, signalling a breakdown in trust and team communication.
Commentator Bertrand Latour didn’t pull his punches. He described Beye’s approach as “a big mistake… symptomatic of his inexperience.” He added, “When you reach the point of doing that, it’s the error of a coach losing the plot.” Latour went on to say that Rennes don’t have the squad to justify their current position and, judging by the lineup, the club is performing like a bottom-tier side rather than one aiming higher.
As the fall season of Ligue 1 takes shape, Rennes and Habib Beye face a critical crossroads. The next few fixtures could decide whether he holds on – or the club opts for major change.
