Historic Feat: Shamar Springer and Mujeeb Ur Rahman Record Dual Hat-Tricks in Same T20I Series
Shamar Springer and Mujeeb Ur Rahman make history as the first two players to take hat-tricks in the same T20I series between full-member nations.
Cricket history was made as Shamar Springer and Mujeeb Ur Rahman became the first two players ever to take hat-tricks in the same bilateral men’s T20I series between ICC full-member nations.
The unprecedented milestone occurred during the Afghanistan vs West Indies T20I series in Dubai, setting a new benchmark in international T20 cricket.
Springer Seals History with Match-Winning Hat-Trick
In the third T20I at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, West Indies defended 151/7, producing a dramatic late collapse in Afghanistan’s chase.
With Afghanistan at 127/4, Springer struck in the 19th over, dismissing:
• Rahmanullah Gurbaz
• Rashid Khan
• Shahidullah Kamal
on three consecutive deliveries, completing his first-ever international hat-trick and turning the match decisively.
He finished with outstanding figures of 4/20, as West Indies secured a 15-run victory in what was otherwise a lost series.
“It feels special to be only the third West Indian to take a T20I hat-trick. I focused on patience, execution, and forcing batters to hit to the longer side,” Springer said after the match.
Springer now joins Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd as the only West Indies players to record T20I hat-tricks.
Mujeeb’s Hat-Trick Sets the Stage
The historic double was set up one match earlier by Afghan spin star Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who claimed his hat-trick in the second T20I:
• Evin Lewis
• Johnson Charles
• Brandon King (first ball of the next over)
making it a hat-trick across two overs, a rare and difficult feat in itself.
A First in Full-Member Cricket History
This is the first-ever instance of two hat-tricks occurring in the same T20I series between ICC full-member nations.
Previously:
• Only associate-nation series (Malta vs Belgium) had seen dual hat-tricks
• ICC tournaments have seen multiple hat-tricks, but not within the same bilateral series
This achievement places the AFG vs WI series in a unique historical category in global cricket records.
