Vaibhav Suryavanshi Breaks World Record With Sensational 171 in U-19 Asia Cup Clash vs UAE
India’s young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced a historic performance in the opening match of the U-19 Asia Cup 2025, smashing a world-record 171 off just 95 balls to dismantle UAE at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai. The 14-year-old left-hander delivered one of the greatest innings ever seen in Youth ODI cricket, guiding India to a massive 433/6 before the bowlers sealed a 234-run victory.
Suryavanshi’s incredible knock included nine fours and 14 sixes, breaking two major world records:
Records Broken by Vaibhav Suryavanshi
• Most sixes in a Youth ODI innings (14) — surpassing Australia’s Michael Hill (12 in 2008)
• Most sixes in a single U-19 Asia Cup innings, beating Afghanistan’s Darwish Rasooli (10 in 2017)
His innings is also now the second-highest score by an Indian in Youth ODI history, trailing only Ambati Rayudu’s 177 in 2002*.
India Recover After Early Setback
After UAE captain Yayin Rai elected to bowl first, India suffered a brief scare when skipper Ayush Mhatre fell for just 4 runs in the third over. But Suryavanshi and opening partner Aaron George (69) quickly rebuilt the innings.
Suryavanshi paced his knock brilliantly:
• Reached 50 off 30 balls
• Brought up his century off 56 balls
• Reached 150 off 84 deliveries
He was eventually run out for 171 (95) at a strike rate of 180, leaving the UAE bowlers stunned.
India’s middle order kept the pressure on, with solid contributions from:
• Vihaan Malhotra – 69
• Vedant Trivedi – 38
• Abhigyan Kundu – 32
• Kanishk Chouhan – 28
The total of 433 is one of the highest ever posted in U-19 Asia Cup history.
UAE Collapse Under Pressure
Chasing 434, the UAE U-19 side never found momentum and were restricted to 199/7 in 50 overs. India completed a dominant 234-run victory, starting their Asia Cup campaign in emphatic style.
A Star Is Born
With this record-breaking knock, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has firmly announced himself as one of India’s brightest young talents. His power, composure, and world-class strokeplay at just 14 years old have already made him the standout story of the tournament.
India will hope his form continues as they push toward another U-19 Asia Cup title.
