The Hobart Hurricanes strengthened their position at the top of the Women’s Big Bash League with a commanding 81-run DLS victory over the Melbourne Stars in Hobart.
In a rain-affected 17-over contest, the Hurricanes posted a powerful 176/4, driven by a brilliant 71 from Danni Wyatt-Hodge, her fourth half-century of the season. With this performance, she overtook Meg Lanning in the Golden Bat standings.
Wyatt-Hodge accelerated after a slow start (2 runs off her first 11 balls), finishing with a decisive 47-ball innings and taking three key catches in the field. Lizelle Lee (32) provided early momentum before rain briefly halted play, while Nat Sciver-Brunt added a valuable 31.
Chasing a revised target of 180, the Stars collapsed to 98 all out in 15.5 overs. Molly Strano produced a sensational spell of 5 for 16, dismantling the Stars’ batting lineup and taking three wickets in her first over. Only tail-ender Sasha Moloney (31) resisted, as early wickets from Nicola Carey and Linsey Smith triggered the downfall.
With another dominant all-round display, the Hurricanes confirmed their status as the in-form team of the tournament, while the Stars’ four-match winning streak came to a sudden end.
