Texas A&M Collapse in Second Half as Quintrevion Wisner, Arch Manning Lead Texas to 27–17 Win
Texas A&M fell 27–17 to Texas as Quintrevion Wisner and Arch Manning powered a dominant second half. Here’s how the Lone Star Showdown slipped away for the Aggies.
The No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies saw their College Football Playoff momentum take a major hit on Friday night, falling 27–17 to the Texas Longhorns in Austin after another defensive breakdown against running back Quintrevion Wisner.
A&M entered halftime with a confident 10–3 lead, powered by a strong defensive start, a Jared Zirkel field goal and a rushing touchdown from KC Concepcion. But everything unraveled after the break — and once again, Wisner was the one who did the damage.
⭐ Wisner Dominates A&M Again in the Lone Star Showdown
Last season, Wisner torched the Aggies for 186 yards at Kyle Field. This year, he delivered another monster performance, rushing 19 times for 155 yards and breaking the game open early in the second half.
After being contained in the first quarter, Wisner erupted with 16-yard and 17-yard runs to start the third quarter, setting the tone for a Texas offense that controlled the remainder of the game. A&M’s run defense — already a concern all season — simply couldn’t hold up.
⭐ Arch Manning Adds Spark with Legs and Arm
In addition to Wisner’s dominance, Arch Manning played a pivotal role for the Longhorns:
• 53 rushing yards on seven carries
• A 35-yard touchdown run that effectively sealed the win in the fourth quarter
• 14-of-29 passing, including 9-of-12 in the second half, showing poise when it mattered most
Manning’s mobility exposed A&M’s defensive gaps and forced the Aggies into tough down-and-distance situations throughout the half.
⭐ Texas A&M Defense: “We Busted Way Too Many Things”
Linebacker Taurean York did not sugarcoat the unit’s struggles after the game.
“We busted way too many things… Against an upper-echelon team like Texas, you can’t have those mistakes.”
York, one of the team’s emotional leaders, also urged the Aggies to reset quickly with the College Football Playoff still ahead.
“You want that rivalry win, those bragging rights… but it wasn’t our time. We’ll keep pushing forward and get ready for the playoffs.”
⭐ What’s Next for Texas A&M?
With this loss, the Aggies are out of SEC Championship contention and will now wait to learn their opponent for the opening round of the College Football Playoff, which will be hosted at Kyle Field.
Despite the setback, A&M remains a top-four team — but their defensive vulnerabilities, especially against elite rushing attacks, now represent a major concern entering postseason play.
